Steve Backshall trains with Prometheus!

Prometheus was delighted to renew Steve Backshall’s medical training last week on his #TECC course. NAEMT’s Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course is renowned worldwide as it teaches EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.

“Every time I do this course it reminds me of how even entry-level skills could save lives. The actions a bystander takes in the first few minutes of an emergency are the most crucial.”

[/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Steve was very complimentary regarding our faculty of instructors who are all top-notch, up-to-date doctors, nurses and paramedics, he said, “get training from people who do it for real!”

Our instructors immerse students in the scenarios and we find the hands-on aspect of our training courses impacts the retention of knowledge – students are empowered with confidence.

Steve says that with training, “When a crisis hits you’ll be less likely to panic, and do the basic things really well. you could well save a life.” We agree and prepare our students for any scenario they might encounter.

“It was really great to see Steve again, and his enthusiasm for learning every aspect to the highest level, we felt privileged to work with him as he pushes himself to achieve the highest standards. We also invited Doctor Malcolm Russell MD to provide Steve with instruction as he was not only the founder of Prometheus, but he also works as part of UK Fire & Rescue Service International Search and Rescue Team (UKISAR) who deploy worldwide to countries suffering a humanitarian crisis.”

We offer training to the absolute beginner, who can qualify for First Responder level on the Qualsafe FREC 3 course, to seasoned medical professionals who train with us for their continuous professional development (CPD), and to add new skills, like caring for patients in a tactical, remote, or austere environments on the TECC course, or ExpeMed™ which has developed a well-earned reputation for being the leading expedition medicine course in the UK.

Medical scenarios bring training to life for students

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”section” _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.22.2″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Prometheus instructors hosted a medical scenario demonstration day for a Consultancy and Training client to showcase and demonstrate to staff how to get the best out of Medical Scenario training. The staff had all previously completed First Response Emergency Care Level 3 RQF (FREC 3)  training with Prometheus and they attended the day to gain full insight into how they could facilitate their own scenario training for the rest of their departments, using SIMBODIES and casualty simulation make-up to recreate scenarios that they are likely to encounter in their sector.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.22.2″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

SIMBODIES, who are also a part of the global company Safeguard Medical, are renowned for simulation and moulage equipment, designed to closely replicate the look and appearance of the human body.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.22.2″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Medical scenario training day

The day started with a fantastic hands-on, practical session from SIMBODIES who demonstrated applying realistic casualty simulation (cassim) makeup on casualty actors and the life-like SIMBODIES manikins. A full range of wounds and injuries were realistically recreated using simulation sleeves and wound prosthetics.

The scenarios and demonstrations during the day were designed to reflect the types of scenarios that our client’s emergency medical responders face in their workplace. All are First Response Emergency Care Level 3 RQF (FREC 3) trained by Prometheus, undertaking their responder role in addition to their main workplace role, so the medical scenarios and casualty simulation were designed to demonstrate their FREC 3 competencies and give them confidence to apply them in a real-world situation.

Scenarios included a cardiac arrest incident (Basic Life Support and AED skills), a multi-casualty incident involving a vehicle, and the casualties included multi-system trauma and medical emergency.

Medical Training recommendations following the Manchester Arena Inquiry

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

The tragic events of the Manchester bomb and subsequent Inquiry have increased the focus and scope of the trauma medicine response required from the security industry. Prometheus Medical currently supports several of the largest global security providers, providing a comprehensive medical compliance package, tailor-made to the specifics of each company.

The Chairman of the Manchester Arena Inquiry stated, “The Security Industry Authority should take urgent steps to devise a training scheme in first responder interventions that educates all of those licensed by it, both existing licensees and new licence applicants.”

Partnering with Prometheus Medical will ensure your company’s infrastructure is compliant, and your SOPs are fit for purpose:

  • Protecting your reputation
  • Protecting your customers’ reputations
  • Showing you are responsive to the findings in the report

SecuritySector - Training, Equipment and Telemedical

Medical Management: Threat Assessment

Threat assessments are a prerequisite within the security service helping you to judge how adverse events may impact the venue you are protecting, to assess and mitigate the medical risk should the threat ever occur, minimising impact to your organisation and third parties.

We will assess medical vulnerability so you can:

  • Anticipate an incident
  • Manage an incident
  • Provide a resilient response

Security Guard at an event

Our insight into the Security sector will enable you to fast-track from where you are at today, to where you’d like to be.

I have added a Q&A below which will help you consolidate your thoughts:

What more can I do to ensure that my company’s critical medical infrastructure is risk-resilient and within my scope of influence or control?

For organisations without in-house medical support and expertise, we can provide an expert, who will act in a CMO (Chief Medical Officer) capacity, guiding key decision-makers with critical medical management planning and updates.

How do I identify risks?

Companies with Clinical Governance take advantage of having their documentation overviewed by our medical experts, safeguarding the interests of all personnel involved and your reputation.

How do I assess the interoperability of my team?

Having a “medical management” overview of policies and procedures from a medical and strategic perspective ensures you have the right people, in the right place, at the right time.

How do I assess the medical effectiveness of front-line security officers?

Having a “medical management” overview of your team holistically – will ensure your security officers are empowered with the correct medical knowledge appropriate for the level of their responsibility.

Prometheus Medical can also train and equip your staff with the most up-to-date knowledge. Our courses are taught by practising medics, meaning you benefit from the most current knowledge. We also supply industry-leading equipment, our own patented products, and medical kit bags as supplied to Ambulance services in the UK.

We can provide site-specific system stress testing, re-creating highly realistic simulated sessions to test responsiveness.

How do I back up my front-line security officers?

Reachback 24/7 telemedical support enhances the capabilities of your on-site first responders to make more involved clinical decisions, which subsequently mitigates risk. It guarantees you immediate access to UK NHS consultant-level clinicians – specialists in emergency and trauma medicine.

In these uncertain times, threat and risk assessments are continually analysed by security teams to mitigate risk for security officers and the people they protect. From a medical standpoint, the report from the Manchester Arena Inquiry highlights the need for security officers to be trained to a higher level than First Aid with a view to them being more able to assist with medical traumas that endanger life.

Working with us will give you the peace of mind that your company has recognised and controlled risk for all parties and that your security officers are trained to high levels of competency, backed up by telemedical support – meaning staff morale is high as they feel valued and empowered.

Prometheus instructors are medically current experts and tailor the practical hands-on sessions to resonate with their students, who come from all industry sectors.

Serve on Charity Volunteers Receive First Response Training

[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Prometheus Medical has recently facilitated First Response Emergency Care training for the humanitarian charity Serve On. They operate crisis response in the UK and abroad to help people at the time of their greatest need.

The dedicated Serve On volunteers that support the charity’s efforts undergo a selection process, and we are proud to have provided training to help them save more lives.

Undertaking our Qualsafe accredited First Response Emergency Care (FREC) Level 3 award involves practical training to offer the emergency responder an enhanced medical capability to deal with a casualty in trauma or medical emergency. The course is tailored to the specific needs of each organisation and focuses on the provision of effective trauma medical management in all environments and industries.

Serve On chose Prometheus Medical to provide the FREC 3 course on-site at our purpose-built facility in Hereford due to previous successful training courses with us. When asked why they claimed we “have a great industry reputation on delivering training and making it relevant to the candidates”.

Initially set up to give a new purpose to former military personnel, Serve On volunteers are now selected from all walks of life, aged from 14 to 65+ and comprised of current and previous professions from emergency services responders and nurses to carpenters and electricians.

The volunteers use their experience and skills to create rescue teams, including the International Response Team, Community Resilience Teams, Rescue Rookies and Dog Rescue Team. They also mentor young, marginalised or disadvantaged members of their community and we are keen to help promote the valuable work they do at home and beyond. Contributing to the charity with various functions from ”boots on the ground” aid to management support services, the students were highly engaged throughout the training, and our instructor commented that it was a “very enjoyable course to teach”.

We were thrilled to hear in the post-training feedback that the students enjoyed their time with us, stating that “the course was tailored to deal with scenarios that we as Dog Handlers would deal with along with day-to-day First Responder scenarios. Our instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and approachable, with a wealth of hands-on experience. In addition, we found that all the Prometheus Medical staff we dealt with were very helpful and made everything very easy”.

Funded by individual donations, the Department For Transport and the People’s Postcode Lottery, among a handful of other organisations, monetary support of any amount is valuable to this privately financed organisation. We implore you to donate if you can and help this awe-inspiring charity to continue its crucial work. Make your donation at here.
