]]>Prometheus Medical International are extremely proud to have partnered with West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) by delivering 10 NAEMT PHTLS courses this year to 98 Paramedic Mentors across their trust.
The selfless work carried out by all at WMAS was emphasised during the course deliveries, with several candidates being identified as potential instructors. What sets Prometheus Medical International apart is the use of clinically current instructors including HCPC Paramedics, Doctors and other Pre-Hospital Specialists, and it was great to see course feedback reflecting this:
Both instructors were knowledgeable in their fields, it was refreshing that they were both paramedics & have experience in the field . Many courses I have attended have different people covering pre-hospital that don’t understand the area.
Prometheus Medical International deliver both open courses that allow individual students to book online, and group bookings. This allows ambulance trusts the flexibility to book a block of students either at our site in Herefordshire, or at their own facility, using our hands-on, high-fidelity training aids. Utilising our 11-acre training centre, we can simulate a number of hyper realistic scenarios which engage students, as well as a range of classroom theory to embed knowledge and promote skills retention.
Prometheus provides medical training to a number of Ambulance Trusts across the UK, both at the Prometheus training site in Hereford and at locations UK wide.

Prometheus Medical International is attending the Hillhead Quarrying, Construction & Recycling show on June 26th in Buxton.
Our business development manager, Chris Read, who has a wealth of experience of medical risk management, is eager to connect with health and safety managers to give a brief overview of how Prometheus’ emergency medical response provision aligns with the sector.
Chris is currently in discussions with a number of manufacturing companies that have identified gaps in their medical emergency response provision. He has ascertained their specific needs in terms of training, clinical governance, and supported decision-making using telemedicine to provide a tailor-made solution. He has a keen interest in engaging with manufacturers of heavy plant and machinery in the UK, as well as site construction service companies.
Drawing from a background in heavy haulage and recovery from a family business, Chris is well-versed in plant and machinery within the extractables sector, coupled with technical expertise in fire mitigation on engines. Prior to joining Prometheus Medical International, Chris accrued 10 years of experience in a leading insulation and fire protection business.
Given that the manufacturing space often adheres to the HSE guidance of “First Aid at Work,” which limits businesses to rely on emergency services, there is a growing need to equip and empower the right individuals at the right place and time. This is particularly crucial as response times of emergency services have been increasing in recent years. Prometheus offers a range of solutions to enhance the skills of workers, provide clinical operating frameworks, and supported decision-making, thereby empowering the on-ground team to save and safeguard lives.

]]>The post Case Study From Our Recent Expemed Course 2024 appeared first on Prometheus Medical.
]]>We are thrilled to share a case study based on the feedback from our May 2024 course. This session featured four exceptional instructors with extensive outdoor medicine experience, making it a rich learning opportunity for our students.
ExpeMed™ is the UK’s longest-running expedition medicine course for healthcare professionals. Established by Dr. Stephen Hearns in 1998, it has earned a reputation as the leading expedition medicine course in the UK. Prometheus has been the sole provider since 2008.
Our students benefitted greatly from instructors who are not only knowledgeable but also actively practising in the field. One student noted:
“The instructors had a good subject knowledge based on experience both previous and current. I always feel this is so valuable to have staff that know and do, rather than just teach.”
We appreciate this feedback as we strive to provide the most current and relevant training possible.
We believe in immersive learning to enhance retention. Our students particularly enjoyed the blend of classroom and outdoor sessions. One student shared:
“Expedition medicine by its nature is an outdoor activity and it was great when we could to hold sessions outside, as it added to the realism. I enjoyed the split between classroom and practical as this was engaging!”
This hands-on approach and interactive teaching made the course both educational and enjoyable.
Our holistic approach covers all essential aspects of expedition medicine. One student highlighted the importance of addressing mental attitude:
“Great to see this as part of the course, and very professionally mature, to see this included, as is so often overlooked. I feel this is a critical aspect as poor mental attitude from one individual can adversely impact the entire team.”
We aim to make the booking process smooth and straightforward. One student commented:
“The info on the portal was clear and concise, and when I contacted the Training Team, they provided everything I needed, including making arrangements for accommodation.”
We offer simple, B&B-style accommodation that our students find satisfactory. As one student described:
“Clean, comfortable, functional, and affordable.”
Our lunches receive consistent praise for their variety and quality. One student noted:
“Nice variety, catering to all types of diet. I particularly noticed the small things, like homemade coleslaw, freshly baked croissants, and pain chocolate. Nice touch.”
Our setting in the Herefordshire countryside provides an ideal learning environment. Feedback included:
“Great setting which is well maintained.”
The feedback from our May 2024 course highlights the strengths of the Prometheus ExpeMed™ course. From expert instructors to engaging, hands-on learning, we strive to offer an unparalleled educational experience for aspiring expedition medics.
We look forward to welcoming future learners to our next course!

]]>The post Steve Backshall trains with Prometheus! appeared first on Prometheus Medical.
]]>Prometheus was delighted to renew Steve Backshall’s medical training last week on his #TECC course. NAEMT’s Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course is renowned worldwide as it teaches EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.
“Every time I do this course it reminds me of how even entry-level skills could save lives. The actions a bystander takes in the first few minutes of an emergency are the most crucial.”
Steve was very complimentary regarding our faculty of instructors who are all top-notch, up-to-date doctors, nurses and paramedics, he said, “get training from people who do it for real!”
Our instructors immerse students in the scenarios and we find the hands-on aspect of our training courses impacts the retention of knowledge – students are empowered with confidence.
Steve says that with training, “When a crisis hits you’ll be less likely to panic, and do the basic things really well. you could well save a life.” We agree and prepare our students for any scenario they might encounter.
“It was really great to see Steve again, and his enthusiasm for learning every aspect to the highest level, we felt privileged to work with him as he pushes himself to achieve the highest standards. We also invited Doctor Malcolm Russell MD to provide Steve with instruction as he was not only the founder of Prometheus, but he also works as part of UK Fire & Rescue Service International Search and Rescue Team (UKISAR) who deploy worldwide to countries suffering a humanitarian crisis.”
We offer training to the absolute beginner, who can qualify for First Responder level on the Qualsafe FREC 3 course, to seasoned medical professionals who train with us for their continuous professional development (CPD), and to add new skills, like caring for patients in a tactical, remote, or austere environments on the TECC course, or ExpeMed™ which has developed a well-earned reputation for being the leading expedition medicine course in the UK.

]]>The post Medical scenarios bring training to life for students appeared first on Prometheus Medical.
]]>Prometheus instructors hosted a medical scenario demonstration day for a Consultancy and Training client to showcase and demonstrate to staff how to get the best out of Medical Scenario training. The staff had all previously completed First Response Emergency Care Level 3 RQF (FREC 3) training with Prometheus and they attended the day to gain full insight into how they could facilitate their own scenario training for the rest of their departments, using SIMBODIES and casualty simulation make-up to recreate scenarios that they are likely to encounter in their sector.
SIMBODIES, who are also a part of the global company Safeguard Medical, are renowned for simulation and moulage equipment, designed to closely replicate the look and appearance of the human body.
The day started with a fantastic hands-on, practical session from SIMBODIES who demonstrated applying realistic casualty simulation (cassim) makeup on casualty actors and the life-like SIMBODIES manikins. A full range of wounds and injuries were realistically recreated using simulation sleeves and wound prosthetics.
The scenarios and demonstrations during the day were designed to reflect the types of scenarios that our client’s emergency medical responders face in their workplace. All are First Response Emergency Care Level 3 RQF (FREC 3) trained by Prometheus, undertaking their responder role in addition to their main workplace role, so the medical scenarios and casualty simulation were designed to demonstrate their FREC 3 competencies and give them confidence to apply them in a real-world situation.
Scenarios included a cardiac arrest incident (Basic Life Support and AED skills), a multi-casualty incident involving a vehicle, and the casualties included multi-system trauma and medical emergency.
Prometheus Training and Consultancy team has worked extensively and collaboratively with the client through the provision of Consultancy Services and Training. These services have included bespoke needs analysis of their emergency medical response system across multiple sites, providing FREC 3 training to their emergency medical responders, along with other bespoke medical training, through to the provision of remote medical support via our Reachback telemedicine service. Prometheus Reachback telemedicine gives 24/7 direct access to our team of Emergency Medicine and pre-hospital Consultants who provide remote advice ranging from primary care to emergency conditions and traumatic incidents.
